Bastien kept his promise. That’s the least we can say! He ended this season with an amazing win and a second place. Useless to say he would have prefered being the new champion, and not only for himself but also to thank his team for the great work. He will remember 2018 as a year in which he finished 13 times out of 14 races on the podium. He’ll often think of his 4 wins and his second place in the overall standings after a strong season. And he can be proud of that.
Bastien didn’t feel any stress at the start of the weekend. He didn’t have anything to loose and lots to win. He just wanted to give the best of himself and enjoy one more time his bike he likes so much. As usual he started from the second place on the grid and took the lead in the race. Even though Ilya couldn’t afford to crash, he was definetely not going to give away the victory just like that, and he has been putting pressure on Bastien during the complete race. But Bastien couldn’t care less. He was very much determined to show his talent and will to win. He wanted to do the same in the second race, but Ilya hasn’t become champion for no reason! With the title in his pocket, he could afford to take some risks and both gentlemen decided to give away a show to the fans. Ilya won the last race just before Bastien.
Bastien : « I am really very happy. I have given the best of myself during the season and even though I hoped to win the title, I feel a lot of joy and satisfaction to finish second with such a strong competitor. More than ever I am happy that I went back to Benny Wilbers team. They are really great and Benny Wilbers is a very strong person. I am delighted to announce that I will be defending the colours of Wilbers in 2019.”
I would like to thank a bunch of people that helped me making this happen: Burky for being my data man, Peter, Papa Bear, Buzzini and Doninik for making this bike work so well, Biggi and Franzi for the best food in the paddock, Sabrina Wilbers and Max (my biggest fan) for your support, Chantal and Michel for always being there, my family, friends and fans. And a special thank you to my sweetheart Aurelie. I am grateful for you being around and for supporting me in this adventure.

Bastien Mackels décroche le titre de Vice Champion IDM 2018 !
Notre ami a tenu sa promesse pour la dernière course du championnant d’IDM qui se déroulait sur le circuit d’Hockeheim. Bastien a donné le meilleur de lui-même tout au long de ce weekend avec à nouveau un magnifique résultat à la clé : une victoire et une deuxième place.
C’est clair qu’il espérait avoir le titre cette année. Il le voulait tellement pour remercier son équipe, qui a fait un travail hors pair, et pour ses proches et ses fans qui le soutiennent. Mais 2018 a été une année pendant laquelle Bastien a réalisé 13 podiums sur 14 courses, dont 4 victoires ; une année pendant laquelle il s’est battu pour décrocher cette magnifique deuxième place au championnat. Et il peut être très fier, car il a tout donné.
Ce weekend, Bastien partait sans pression, juste avec une énorme envie de tout donner et de se faire une dernière fois plaisir avec cette moto qu’il aime tant. Auteur d’une deuxième place lors des qualifications, il a pris un bon départ à la première manche. Bien qu’Ilya dût quand même assurer un peu (une chute pouvait lui coûter le titre au profit de Bastien), il n’avait pas envie de rendre ses armes et il s’est battu jusqu’au bout pour empêcher Bastien de remporter la course. Mais Bastien était déterminé et a fait une fois de plus une démonstration de son talent et de sa force de caractère. Lors de la deuxième manche, il mène la course pendant pas mal de tours, mais Ilya n’est pas pour rien le nouveau Champion d’Allemagne et tout comme Bastien, il avait envie de remporter cette dernière course. Les spectateurs ont pu assister à une course plein de suspense avec une victoire pour Ilya et une deuxième place pour Bastien.
Bastien : « Je suis terriblement heureux. J’ai donné le meilleur de moi-même pendant toute la saison et j’ai dû me battre à chaque course. Bien sûr j’aurais aimé avoir le titre,mais terminer deuxième au championnat au bout d’une saison aussi disputée avec un concurrent de taille me procure énormément de plaisir et de satisfaction. Je suis plus que jamais content d’avoir pris la décision de retourner dans le team de Benny Wilbers. Cette équipe a énormément de mérite et c’est grâce à eux que j’ai pu vivre une saison de rêve et Benny est un grand monsieur à mes yeux.
Merci à Burky pour la télémétrie, à mes mécanos Peter, Papa Bear, Buzzini et Dominik, à Biggi et Franzi pour être les meilleures cuistosdu paddock, à Sabrina et Max Wilbers (mon plus grand fan) pour leur soutien et leur gentillesse, à Chantal et Michel pour être toujours là pour moi, à ma famille, mes amis et mes fans. Et un tout grand merci à ma compagne Aurélie, qui est toujours là pour moi et qui me soutient dans cette belle aventure.
Je tiens à féliciter Ilya et le team Van Zon que j’apprécie beaucoup pour leur titre. Et je félicite également mon ami et ancien équipier Markus Reiterberger pour sa couronne en Championnat d’Europe Superstock. A l’année prochaine !

Nieuwe overwinning en tweede plaats na een spannende wedstrijd voor Bastien Mackels
Onze vriend is zijn belofte nagekomen voor het laatste race weekeinde. Hij heeft het beste van zichzelf gegeven met een overwinning en een tweede plaats als resultaat. Natuurlijk had hij liever kampioen geworden, hij wilde zo graag zijn team en zijn fans bedanken voor hun inzet en het puike werk. Maar hij zal zich 2018 herinneren als het jaar waar hij 13 keer in 14 wedstrijden op het podium stond. En ook zijn 4 overwinningen zal hij niet vergeten. En 2018 is het jaar waarin hij gevochten heeft om vice kampioen te worden. En daar mag hij fier op zijn !
Bastien was volledig ontspannen dit weekeinde. Hij had gewoon ongelooflijk veel zin om alles te geven zonder dingen te moeten veilig stellen. Zin om nog eens een laatste keer plezier te beleven met zijn BMW S 1000 RR. Zoals gewoonlijk vertrok hij van de tweede plaats en nam hij een goede start. Hoewel Ilya toch een beetje zijn titel moest veiligstellen, bleek al snel dat hij niet zomaar de overwinning zou weggeven. Hij heeft Bastien dan ook tot op het laatste het vuur aan de schenen gelegd, maar dat liet Bastien een beetje koud. Niets schrikte hem terug om nog maar eens te laten zien hoeveel doorzettingsvermogen en talent hij heeft en om die overwinning op zijn naam te schrijven. Hij had hetzelfde plan voor de tweede race, maar Ilya had toen zelf niets meer te verliezen. Beide heren hadden zin in wat spektakel en de toeschouwers hebben hier volop van kunnen genieten. Ilya won de laatste wedstrijd, net voor Bastien.
Bastien : « Ik ben héél bliij. Ik heb echt het beste van mezelf gegeven dit seizoen en ben er elke wedstrijd opnieuw voor gegaan. Natuurlijk hoopte ik op de titel maar tweede worden na zo’n spannend seizoen en met een enorm sterke tegenstander geeft me veel voldoening. Nu meer dan ooit ben ik blij dat ik ervoor gekozen heb om opnieuw het team van Wilbers te vervoegen. Dit team is heel verdienstelijk en Benny Wilbers is een grote mijnheer in mijn ogen. Dankzij hen heb ik dit droomseizoen kunnen beleven. Ik ben dan ook superblij te kunnen aankondigen dat ik volgend jaar opnieuw voor dit geweldige team aan de start zal komen.
Dank je Burky voor de Telemetrie, dank je Peter, Papa Bear, Buzzini en Doninik om ervoor te zorgen dat mijn motor steeds top was, dank je aan Biggi en Franzi : jullie zijn de beste koks in de paddock. Dank je Sabrina en Max (mijn grootste fan) Wilbers voor jullie vriendschap. Bedankt Chantal en Michel om er altijd voor mij te zijn, en dank je wel mijn familie, vrienden en fans. En een heel speciale dank voor mijn hartedief Aurelie want ze is er steeds voor mij en steunt me door dik en dun in dit prachtige avontuur.
Ik wens Ilya en het team Van Zon te feliciteren voor de titel. En ook gefeliciteerd Markus Reiterberger, mijn vroegere team mate en kameraad, voor jouw titel in het EK Superstock.
